An exhibition in collaboration with the Giovanni Meloni<\/strong> Archive and Artep Italia, paying tribute to Giovanni Meloni through a selection of works from his Totem<\/strong> cycles, created between 1994 and 1997. These pieces are presented in dialogue with masks and indigenous sculptures from the MAC<\/strong> collection, in a search for affinities, connections, and resonances between artistic contexts and paths.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Giovanni Meloni (1940\u20132019)<\/strong> began his artistic journey in Verona, influenced by Pop Art and Arte Povera, before establishing a deep connection with the Scandinavian art scene. He formed a close relationship with Danish sculptor J\u00f8rgen H. S\u00f8rensen and exhibited in renowned institutions such as the Birch Gallery and the Louisiana Museum. Rejecting the clich\u00e9s imposed by the art market, his style evolved in the 1970s from the vibrant chromaticism typical of Nordic Expressionism to a more lyrical and figurative approach. This transformation culminated in work residencies in Germany alongside Candida H\u00f6fer, where he was drawn to the Neuen Wilden movement. During his time in Verona, he also collaborated with artists such as Anish Kapoor, Arno Vroonen, and others.<\/p>

Totem (1994\u20131997)<\/strong>
In the early 1990s, following a trip to the United States during which he discovered the indigenous cultures of the Americas, Meloni developed a growing interest in the primitive art of Central African peoples. From this inspiration emerged the Totem<\/strong> painting cycles (1994\u20131997), where the irregular forms of masks, ancestors, and shamans became his central subjects.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
