This mask embodies a wild, aggressive, powerful and indomitable spirit. It is believed that by wearing it, men become more courageous and fearless.
The facial features of the Mgbedike masks cannot be clearly distinguished as either animal or human but lie ambiguously between the two categories. The face is characterised by round, protruding eyes, an open mouth revealing teeth, and a triangular nose, elements that give the mask an intense and evocative expression.
