The Koro fetish-sculpture represents a ritual object of notable importance for the Bwa people, an ethnic group mainly settled in the western regions of Burkina Faso. It constitutes a significant exemplar of the traditional art and spirituality that permeates the Bwa culture.
The statue is devoted to rituals dedicated to father of Do, Wuro, the creator of the earth and animals according to Bwa mythology. The elongated conical head gives the figure a supernatural aura, while the surface texture evokes the leaf or fiber costumes worn by masked dancers during ritual ceremonies.
